Our Competition

Working in partnership with leaders in the U.S. space industry, the StellarXplorers National Youth Space Design Education Program challenges grade-school students toward careers in space or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines essential to our nation’s future.

The competition consists of three practice rounds, three qualifying rounds, a semifinal round, and a final round. The beginning of the season alternates between practice rounds and qualifying rounds. The top 64 teams after the first three qualifying rounds are invited to participate in Semifinals. The top 10 teams from Semifinals are asked to participate in Finals, and this is an all-expense-paid trip! The top 3 teams receive educational grants with varying values, the highest valued award going to the team in first place.

Meet Our Sponsors

Are you interested in affiliating your company with the nation’s fastest-growing space system design event? We hope so because there is real value in having your name associated with a program that is connecting thousands of high school, middle school, and elementary school students with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines!

AFA’s AE Program

AFA believes in the power that students hold in securing our nation’s future. Yet, only 16 percent of American high school seniors are interested in careers in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). To equip our students with the knowledge and skills required for future innovation, we must increase the number of students and teachers in STEM fields.
